Sarah: 6 Years with Severe Chest and Stomach Pain*
“I stopped taking the medication the day before I had my surgery, and I’ve taken no more.”
Sarah struggled with acid reflux disease for more than five years. She experienced chest pain, upset stomach and reflux regularly, and turned to medications to control her symptoms. Her reflux would wake her in the middle of the night, interrupting her ability to get a full night’s rest.
For close to four years Sarah took acid reflux medications. They would often help at first and then fade in effectiveness. She took PPIs for several years, and when those medications were no longer helpful she decided to re-assess her options. After a consultation and diagnostic testing with Dr. Bagnato, Sarah learned the cause of her acid reflux was a hiatal hernia. Dr. Bagnato was able to correct the hernia in a minimally invasive outpatient procedure.
Since having anti-reflux surgery, Sarah is able to sleep free of nighttime heartburn. She no longer requires blocks under her bead to elevate her head, and does not need to take any medications to control uncomfortable symptoms.
